THE BOWDITCH HOUSE
Once home to a world-famous navigator, the Nathaniel Bowditch House stands as a reminder of Salem’s rich seafaring legacy.
For over eighty years, Historic Salem, Inc. (HSI) has championed the preservation of Salem’s architecture and history. Founded in 1944 to save the Corwin House (Witch House) from demolition, HSI is one of America’s oldest civic architectural preservation organizations. Over our history, we have helped establish local historic districts, protect landmark buildings, and foster civic appreciation for Salem’s built landscape. Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, HSI ensures that the city’s future remains deeply connected to its past.
